Technical Staff Descriptions
STAGE management
Stage Manager
The Stage Manager is responsible for organizing auditions, rehearsals, and running performances. The stage manager must be responsible, organized and an excellent communicator. They are the hub of the rehearsal and performance process, the point person for any and all questions, the grease in the production wheels and the master communicator for the team.
Assistant Stage Manager
The ASM is the Stage Manager’s partner in organizing rehearsals and running performances. The assistant stage manager must be responsible and organized. An assistant stage manager is a vital role that keeps the stage manager from being overwhelmed. You must be a good communicator with your peers and the directors, and be willing to take direction from the SM.

Assistant Lighting Designer
The assistant lighting designer will work closely with the lighting designer, who is responsible for the design, installation, and operation of the lighting and special electrical effects used in the production. To show where the lighting equipment will be placed, the lighting designer produces a light plot specifying the placement and configuration of all instruments used in the production.

Costume Designer
The costume designer is responsible for the visual appearance of the actors. These responsibilities include what is seen (clothes, shoes, hats, purses, canes, parasols, jewelry, wigs, makeup, etc.) as well as what isn’t (corsets, hoops, boning, character elements such as padded stomachs, etc.). Designs for theatrical costumes consist of colored sketches depicting the clothing and accessories that will be worn by the actor.

The wardrobe supervisor is responsible for the coordination and organization of costume pieces during tech week, dress rehearsals, and performances of the show.

The sound engineer is responsible for all sound elements during tech rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances. They control the mixing console and run pre-recorded sound cues.

The props designer/construction is responsible for the supervision of the prop shop personnel in the acquisition and construction of the various decorative and functional props in a collaborative design process with the scenic designer and director. The props designer closely coordinates with the scenic, lighting, sound, and costuming departments when any technical needs overlap among those departments.

The video designer is responsible for creating any pre-recorded video clips or graphics that are needed for the production. They will work with the director early on in the process to define precisely what needs to be created, and then film and edit those clips.

Projection Engineer
The projection engineer is responsible for setting up and operating all projection needs for the production. They will use a computer to aim each projected clip to a specific location, and run projection cues in tech rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances.

Marketing
Graphics Designer
The graphics designer is responsible for the design and development of posters, social media posts, and anything else that involves communicating information about the production to the public.

The set construction team is responsible for carrying out the execution of the set design. This may involve assembling set elements that already exist, and/or building new elements. Students should feel comfortable using power tools including drills and saws.

The set decoration & painting team is responsible for carrying out the finishing touches of the set design, including any painting, decoration, or added texture needed for the set.

House Manager
The House Manager is responsible for recruiting front of house team members (ticket sellers, ticket scanners, ushers, and concession sellers), training team members, setting up the lobby and Performing Arts Center for an audience, and leading all matters involving patrons on the performance nights.
