Hadestown
March 14 & 15, PNHS Performing Arts Center
Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.

Audition Details
Vocal Auditions (October 23rd and 24th):
Callbacks (October 28th or 29th, exact date TBD in early September):

- What to prepare:
- Solo Audition: About a minute of 1 or 2 musical theatre songs. In regards to accompaniment, students can choose any of the following options:
- Audition without any accompaniment or backing track, OR
- Bring sheet music with you for our music director to play as accompaniment for your audition, OR
- Play a backing track from your own device, out loud, to sing with (the backing track should not have the vocals in it!)
- Part Singing: Using the resources in this Google Drive, choose and learn one of the voice parts in the excerpt of Wait For Me (Reprise).
- In the audition, students will sing their part while all of the parts except their own play out loud (The Audition Tracks folder has the tracks you will sing with in the audition)
- Solo Audition: About a minute of 1 or 2 musical theatre songs. In regards to accompaniment, students can choose any of the following options:
- Students will audition one at a time
Callbacks (October 28th or 29th, exact date TBD in early September):
- All students being considered for the cast of Hadestown after individual vocal auditions will be invited to callbacks.
- Part Singing: Students will be given an excerpt from Hadestown and specific voice parts to prepare ahead of time. In callbacks, we will try different combinations of people in octets and quartets.
- Movement: Students will be learn and demonstrate movement/choreography to an excerpt of Hadestown with our choreographer
- Solo Callbacks: Students may be asked to learn excerpts of songs from different characters in Hadestown. These excerpts will be posted in the fall.
